What You Should Be Reading: CT’s Minimum Wage

Forty-five cents is a lot.

The minimum wage, passed by the state’s House this weekend, should be signed by Malloy. I don’t see why he wouldn’t.

The measure will increase the minimum wage by 75 cents per hour over a two-year period, for a total of $9 per hour.

One thing that is being talked about is how this will affect small business owners. If they aren’t paying above minimum wage now, I think this could have a huge impact.

And a quick Google search tells me people are already thinking about it. As it should be.

I don’t think there’s anything wrong with rasinig it. I’m just curious as to what the consequences, or fallout could be.

“The minimum wage is $8.25 per hour for most employees in Connecticut, with exceptions for tipped employees, some student workers, and other exempt occupations.^[1]

In his 2013 State of the Union address, President Barack Obama called on Congress to raise the Federal Minimum Wage to $9.00 per hour. If this new law is passed, all Connecticut employees will be entitled to earn the new national Minimum Wage of $9.00 per hour.
