Story of the week 9/16

Welcome to this week’s installment of “Story of the Week.”

Another busy week has come to an end, with another to start tomorrow.

This week’s story “Coventry Police Department to have more hiring to do” is just an update to several others I have done since Coventry passed its 2012-13 budget earlier this year. It’s an easy read, but gets into real details of how much work actually goes into a small department trying to find a new officer. For the other stories on the town’s hiring of a new officer check out “Coventry starts long search for new officer” and “New cop job draws 213 hopefuls.”

I always thought it was fairly simple for departments to hire new officers. I just assumed that. After taking the time to check in with Coventry’s Police Chief on a regular basis, I’m kept in the loop. Thankfully, I’ve been given the opportunity to get that insight. It’s a lot of pestering and prying, at times, but it’s all worth it. I get the story and the department gets a venue for people to know where their tax dollars are going.
